Few women readily choose to have an abortion. The position they find themselves in when facing an unplanned pregnancy can make them feel there is no alternative.

The pressure of circumstances can seem overwhelming and there may be a lack of support at a critical time.

Following an abortion, a woman may feel relieved initially. It seems like a “problem” has been solved and life can get back to normal. For many that initial relief can be replaced with a variety of emotions which they had not expected to feel.

These symptoms, which can surface even years after an abortion may include:

  • Depression
  • Guilt and remorse
  • Emptiness and loss
  • Anger and resentment
  • Low self worth
  • Emotional numbness.

When these feelings are buried it may lead to a recognised stress problem called Post Abortion Syndrome.

The good news is that there is help. If you would like to contact someone you can contact us by email, by phone on 01444 233 333 or by visiting us.

We are able to support you anytime after an abortion has been carried out however long ago it has occurred.  We have trained counsellors willing to take you through The Journey, a nationally recognised course which has proven helpful to many people.
